The resignation of former Harvard President, Dr. Gay, has led to considerable use of the word ‘Scapegoat’. This gives us an opportunity to break down the concept of scapegoating to understand what happens, psychologically, when someone is scapegoated by a group. It’s a complex psychodynamic process involving defense mechanisms.
